But, of course, where the relationship is less formal, this will be reflected in a more casual style of writing. The more formal sentence above also shows a change in vocabulary. For pay we now have salary. There is a very large vocabulary of items used for money received for work done : pay, salary, wages, money, screw, remuneration, income, emolument, earnings, fee, commission, honorarium, retainer and no doubt many more.
